Edinburgh Rugby – Friday 18th December, 7:30pm
Details updated on 3rd November
Murrayfield is a couple of miles out from the centre of Edinburgh – There nearest railway station is Haymarket, which is a 10-15 minute walk. The Tram service which runs from the Airport to the City Centre has a stop close to the stadium and there are a number of bus routes from the city centre with stops a couple of minutes walk from the stadium.
TRAIN: Virgin Trains run a frequent direct service from London King’s Cross to Edinburgh, there are also a few services from London Euston (although these have a longer journey time). There is a sleeper service that departs Edinburgh at 11:40pm on the Friday night, so it is possible to make the trip without needing overnight accommodation.
Advance fares from London to Edinburgh are from £46.00 & for the return journey on the Saturday or Sunday advance fares are from £30 (Saturday) & £40.50 (Sunday).
From Reading there are no direct services to Edinburgh, but routes are available via London or via a variety of points depending on the service (Birmingham New Street, Wolverhampton, York, Newcastle…). Outward advance fares are from £58.50 – it is considerably cheaper to travel via London and it might be possible to make further savings by buying separate tickets to London and from London to Edinburgh.
For the return journey on the Saturday or Sunday, advance fares are from £58.50 – again, the cheapest fares are via London.
COACH: There is a direct coach service from London Victoria to Edinburgh, however the journey times do not really make this a viable option.
Journeys from Reading would require one of 2 changes, so are even less viable.
AIR: There are numerous permutations for air travel – British Airways fly to Edinburgh from London City, Heathrow & Gatwick; EasyJet from Gatwick, Luton & Stansted; RyanAir from Stansted; FlyBe from London City and there are a number of options from regional airports.
CAR: With the exception of Disabled spectators, parking at the stadium is for Edinburgh season ticket holders only.
The parking advice on the Edinburgh Rugby Website is “We would suggest you arrive at the stadium early to ensure you find a space in the surrounding streets. Please ensure you follow any parking restrictions in the area.”
